"I had never had shiatsu before but wow what a beautiful journey. Together... we managed to get to the root cause of some emotional trauma which was stuck in my body. Was really such a magical, transformational experience."

What is shiatsu?

 - for health and wellbeing -

Shiatsu is a form of healing that, similar to acupuncture, is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Instead of needles, Shiatsu relies on a quality of touch to connect with the meridians and affect some balance to the recipient's energy.

Typically, Shiatsu is practiced with the recipient lying on a futon mat on the ground, fully clothed in something loose and comfortable like a yoga or jogging outfit. My style of Shiatsu always involves some dialogue. I have found that this dialogue can, for some people, be more useful and appropriate than any touch. Having a strong background in meditation I often guide the receivers awareness into the space of their body where the energetic blockages can be dissolved by the recipient themselves. This can be more empowering than relying on a practitioner and confers a skill to the client that can be used in normal life.

Each Shiatsu treatment is tailored to the needs of the client at that particular moment, so no two treatments are ever the same. Some sessions may be largely touch based, other may be more (or exclusively) dialogue based. Some are calm and still, while others can be dynamic and active. In physical shiatsu the practitioner gently manipulates and massages the muscles, bones, and joints of the recipient’s body, focusing on the energetic and elemental balance.

Our thought patterns and emotions can become energetically stuck, creating blockages in our bodies along our energy lines. Traumatic events, repetitive negative thinking, and difficult emotional states can manifest both energetically and physically as pain or illness. Shiatsu helps clear these blockages, allowing us to think and feel differently and often alleviating physical symptoms as well.

There are numerous reasons to receive a Shiatsu treatment: whether you’re experiencing a specific physical or emotional ailment, feeling stressed, lost or depleted, dealing with pain, or simply in need of rest and relaxation.
